Granit Xhaka could be on his way out of Arsenal this summer. He has been at the Emirates for 7 years. His time at Arsenal was nothing short of events. Once it was looking like he was on his way out in 2020. This came after he threw away the captain’s armband. Things cooled down since as Arteta revived his career. Now Arteta feels like he needs to go inorder for Arsenal to progress.
Granit Xhaka is poised to leave Arsenal at the end of the season and Bayer Leverkusen are in advanced talks to sign the midfielder for €15m (£13m). The 30-year-old’s contract expires in June 2024. There are no negotiations over an extension. With a parting of ways planned seven years after Xhaka joined from another German club, Borussia Mönchengladbach.
What Granit Xhaka has to say
Xhaka scored twice inside the first 15 minutes of a comfortable 5-0 win over Wolves on the final day of the Premier League season on Sunday. He was substituted in the 75th minute. That too with Mikel Arteta seemingly keen for the midfielder to be given a reception from the home fans at the Emirates Stadium.
The Swiss international was given a standing ovation and serenaded by chants of “we want you to stay”. He later hung back during the lap of appreciation after the final whistle to savour what could well be a goodbye, given the strong rumours of a transfer to Bayer Leverkusen.
Asked by AFTV contributor Pippa Monique on her YouTube channel if he is going, Xhaka replied: “You will see next week what happens.”
Speaking before the game vs Wolves , he went on to say:-
“How the fans have treated me, I didn’t expect that – but I am thankful for them. I want to give them something back for, maybe, my last game on Sunday.”
“I wanted to do something special this season, maybe with a title, but it’s not the time. Let’s see what the future holds.”
