Danny Murphy claims that Chelsea are worse without star right back

Wright Chelsea's Potter

It is no debate that Chelsea have been absolutely horrendous this season. They have been the most underperforming side according to their stature. Despite spending huge amount of money in the summer, they haven’t been able to find their form. Injuries, too, have been an issue for the London side. For example, star signing Christopher Nkunku getting injured in the pre-season. Now, last week Captain Reece James picked up a Hamstring injury. The star right back is widely regarded as one of the best players at the Stamford Bridge. Talking on the podcast FIVE, Danny Murphy solidified this claim by saying that the Blues are worse without him in the starting XI.

Danny Murphy on the Chelsea right back

Danny Murphy said on FIVE,

“I’ve got to feel for Reece James. People want to criticise a player when they get injured all the time because they think it’s mentality. Look, seven times hamstring injury,”

He also spoke about the Chelsea Medical staff,

“What baffles me, the medical departments were great even when I was finishing, why can’t they find what it is?
When he doesn’t play they’re not as good.”

Many fans would agree with the pundit’s comments about everything he said. Chelsea do seem to lack in their medical department with many players being out injured one by one.

Reece James for Chelsea

Reece James has only played in 9 games this season for Chelsea. With evident impact whenever he has played. Out of those 9 games he has managed an assist this season. The Champions League winner with Chelsea few years back has been the most prominent player for the blues. With interests from Real Madrid few months back, Chelsea would want to retain their captain. The right back could become the best player in the Premier League if he stays fit.
