Chelsea trying to negotiate a lower fee for De Jong

About Football Express UK

According to reports, Chelsea trying to agree to a lower transfer fee with the Catalan giants for Frenkie De Jong. The Barcelona playmaker has been pursued by the Red Devils throughout the transfer window. Chelsea have also joined the competition. A recent report stated that Stamford Bridge was close to a deal with Barcelona.

Evening Standard states, the Blues are working to lower the transfer fee with Cules to less than the £71m that had been agreed with the Red Devils. Chelsea owner Todd Boehly is directly in talks with Barcelona president Joan Laporta. If an agreement can be reached upon, Chelsea hopes their manager will be able to persuade de Jong to join.

Though the Blues are close to having an agreement, the Dutchman has let his desire to remain in Spain known. That being said, the issue of £17m owed by Barcelona in deferred wages is also causing problems in any kind of transfer. Also, the Catalan giants are looking to let go of players to save some wages. The sale of the playmaker would make space to sign Bernardo Silva from Manchester City.

United give up de Jong for Chelsea?

With recent performances and also the successful signing of Eriksen, looks like United have given up the chase for Frenkie de Jong. The recent performances scream out their need for a decent holding midfielder. This might lead them to pull out of the de Jong chase altogether. Reports of the Red Devils looking for Casemiro are also coming up.
