Chelsea are set to lock horns with London rivals Tottenham Hotspur as they are on the verge of hijacking the deal for Nicolo Zaniolo.

The Blues have joined the race to sign Roma attacker Nicolo Zaniolo and are considering a straight-swap deal this summer. Chelsea are holding talks over a swap for Zaniolo with Christian Pulisic in the transfer window for a potential move.

Earlier Tottenham were the frontrunners on the move for the Roma ace to snap up his services this summer. However, it appears as though Roma could block the move to Tottenham and hold talks with Chelsea for a move.

Chelsea and Tottenham lock horns for Zaniolo

Thomas Tuchel wants to add a player up front in the attack after signing Raheem Sterling earlier in this window. Moreover, after the exits of Timo Werner and the loan move of Romelu Lukaku, the gaffer has turned to the market.

Similarly, Antonio Conte too has been keen on adding depth to his attack and was pushing for Zaniolo this summer. However, Jose Mourinho held talks with the player and it appears that the attacker has second thoughts of joining Tottenham.

The player though is still open to a move to the English top flight for the new season. Moreover, Chelsea are ready to snap up his services but want to include Pulisic in the deal as a straight swap.

The Serie A outfit could consider this offer but have recently signed Paulo Dybala earlier in the transfer window. Additionally, Roma are asking a fee in the region of €50-60 million which Chelsea may not be ready to accept.

Moreover, Tottenham’s initial bid for the player was around €40m which was eventually rejected by the Italian club. Chelsea will need to push for this move if they want to secure the services of the talented 23-year-old.
