On Friday night, Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea hosts Luton Town in an effort to secure his first victory as Chelsea manager. The Blues’ aim to grab their first three points of the season. The former head coach of Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain will make adjustments once again after Carney Chukwuemeka sustained a six-week injury against West Ham. Moreover Mykhailo Mudryk is unavailable due to an issue he had during practise session. Moises Caicedo is already set to make his first start, according to Pochettino, whereas Romeo Lavia may take some time before he makes his debut.
Moises Caicedo will make his first Chelsea start vs Luton
Due to injuries, a total of nine additional players are also not available for the encounter. Benoît Badiashile, Marcus Bettinelli, Armando Broja, Trevoh Chalobah, Carney Chukwuemeka, Wesley Fofana, Reece James and Christopher Nkunku are the big names unavailable for the game against Luton.
After giving away a penalty in the defeat to West Ham, Moises Caicedo, who signed for Chelsea this summer for a British record $115 million cost, had a terrible debut. But still Pochettino has absolutely no doubts that the 21-year-old, who is perhaps the finest defensive midfielder in the Premier League, will perform well for the Blues. The Argentine tactician also says that Lavia needs some weeks to adjust into his system.
“Moises, yes is ready to start. Lavia no,” said Pochettino.
“He needs a few weeks to be ready to be involved with the team. He is working to try and catch his teammates. For Romeo we need to wait a few weeks but Moises is ready.”
Meanwhile Chelsea Boss confirms that Mudryk had suffered a minor injury and can’t play against Luton.
“For Mykhailo it’s a minor issue, I think maybe a few days. But he isn’t going to be available for tomorrow. We are disappointed because of the situation for him where he played 45 minutes against West Ham.”
However, all eyes would be on Caicedo who have to deliver a good performances to prove his worth. He is known for a physical prowess that enables him to win the ball back and keeping possession. Thus, the Ecuadorian international has a perfect opportunity tomorrow to redeem himself after a poor debut as a substitute.
