Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel ‘in talks over Chelsea contract extension’

About Football Express UK

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel is reportedly in talks to extend his contract at Stamford Bridge.

The 48-year-old seeks to avoid being the latest victim of the trigger-happy Chelsea board. Last season, Frank Lampard was sacked in January 2021. He had won the Champions League in his first half-season in charge.

The German tactician also won the UEFA Super Cup a few months after. He also won the Club World Cup earlier this year.

However, he has been unable to recreate this international success on a domestic level. He has lost two FA Cup finals and the 2021-22 EFL Cup final already. Chelsea had to settle for a third-place finish in the Premier League last term. However, the Blues management is reportedly ready to put their faith in Tuchel.

Thomas Tuchel: Contract details and Statistics

The German manager’s contract expires at the end of the 23/24 season, but new owner Todd Boehly reportedly wants to tie Tuchel down until the summer of 2026 after seeing his commitment to the club.

Tuchel was a stalwart and defiant presence in Chelsea during the ownership saga surrounding Roman Abramovich when the club was unable to make transfers or negotiate contracts due to sanctions.

Negotiations are in their early stages, though Chelsea is optimistic that an agreement can be reached with Tuchel to keep him at the club for 2 more years.

The German initially signed a 17-month deal until the summer of 2022 after replacing Lampard. However, when he steered Chelsea to Champions League they extended his contract until 2024.

Tuchel has recorded 60 wins, 19 draws, and 15 defeats during his 94 matches at Chelsea. He was ‘World’s Best Club Coach in 2021’ for his efforts in Europe.
