Chelsea gives Pochettino a huge role in hopes of reshaping the squad

Chelsea owner Todd Boehly may potentially approve three departures before the conclusion of the summer transfer window. Hence, it could leave Mauricio Pochettino with a shortage of personnel in a crucial role. The club has already bid farewell to a significant number of players, including notable names such as Kai Havertz, Mateo Kovacic, N’Golo Kante, and Edouard Mendy. They have exited Stamford Bridge in recent weeks.

Chelsea has been proactive in streamlining their squad to accommodate incoming signings. However, it appears that more players could potentially depart from west London in the near future. Several loan deals are reportedly in progress. But if they materialize, it could leave the team facing a shortage in midfield. This would be far from advantageous on the brink of the new Premier League season.

Lewis Hall is reportedly among the trio of players potentially departing Chelsea on loan. Even though he made strides within the first-team setup at Stamford Bridge last season. Following in the footsteps of Conor Gallagher, he is on track to embark on a loan spell with Crystal Palace. Fabrizio Romano has indicated that the deal is on the brink of confirmation. With the Eagles expected to announce his arrival in the upcoming days.

What is Chelsea planning as the transfer window nears its end?

In the meantime, the Evening Standard has reported that newly acquired player Lesley Ugochukwu is likely to be sent on loan to Strasbourg before the transfer window concludes. Despite joining Chelsea from Rennes earlier this month, the 19-year-old defensive midfielder appears to be poised for a temporary departure from the club. This move aligns with his opportunity to further his development in France for another year.

Should all three loan deals materialize in the forthcoming weeks, Chelsea would find themselves with merely four senior midfielders. This potential scenario might pose a challenge for the team in the initial phase of the new season. Enzo Fernandez is likely to secure a regular starting position, while Conor Gallagher, Carney Chukwuemeka, and Andrey Santos could potentially rotate alongside the Argentine maestro in the midfield.

As a consequence, Chelsea appears to be inclined to prioritize the acquisition of a new playmaker before bolstering other positions. Brighton’s Moises Caicedo is reportedly a prime target for the club. However, the Seagulls have thus far rebuffed several bids, including Chelsea’s most recent proposal of around £80 million, as they hold out for a higher sum.
