Chelsea eyeing to sign a young Portuguese Centre-back

Chelsea

Recently, Chelsea contacted Portimonense over a potential summer transfer for 23-year-old Portuguese defender Filipe Relvas. According to a rumour from the French publication Foot Mercato, Chelsea has an interest in signing Filipe Relvas. The 23-year-old versatile defender is already the subject of an interest from the Blues. Also, the Portimonense player is unlikely to cost more than €10 million during the current transfer window.

Filipe Relvas, a under-rated portuguese defender, catches an eye of a number of clubs

According to rumours, Portimonense games frequently draw a large number of scouts from European teams, and Chelsea was invited as a result. According to the report, the Blues have ‘enquired’ to the Portuguese club for additional details on the defender, along with Wolfsburg, Monaco, Benfica, and Besiktas.

Outside of his native Portugal, Filipe Relvas is a practically unknown star. The Portuguese defender, who graduated from SC Espinho’s youth division, spent his formative years at CD Feirense. After brief stints at FC Pedras Rubras and Gondomar SC, he eventually found stability in Portimonense. At Estadio Municipal de Portimao, the 23-year-old needed some time to get going but has played regularly for the past two seasons. Relvas has played 69 times for Portimonense so far, contributing three assists. The player’s development has also caught the interest of a number of prestigious clubs, including Chelsea.

Chelsea might compete with Monaco to land the defender

The Blues have a strong team because Todd Boehly and his associates have spent a staggering amount of money since acquiring the team. However, the Chelsea team has been ravaged by injuries, with three centre backs among those who are out. Chelsea could employ a new central defender, especially with Wesley Fofana likely missing the whole of the 2023–24 season. As a result, the West London club should consider signing Filipe Relvas. The Portuguese defender is a desirable prospective for Chelsea because he can also play left back. As a result, he can serve as Ben Chilwell’s and Ian Maatsen’s backup options. The Blues already submitted a request for the player’s services in the meantime.

Relvas is a cost-effective alternative for Chelsea and other rival clubs as well. However Portimonense will expect less than €10 million to part ways with him. While waiting for the summer transfer window to close, it will be intriguing to see if Chelsea can outbid AS Monaco and the other suitors for the 23-year-old Portuguese defender.
