Chelsea boss reacts to shock defeat against Leeds United

About Football Express UK

Chelsea lost their first match playing away at Elland Road against Leeds United losing 3-0 to the recently promoted Premier League side.

The Blues have dealt a heavy blow after the shock result at Elland Road against Jesse Marsch’s Leeds United. Thomas Tuchel’s men were humbled away from home losing 3-0 which appeared very one-sided affair at a certain point.

The sensational performance by the recently promoted Premier League side saw them beat Chelsea after 22 years in the top flight. Whereas, for Chelsea, things have not been at their best especially when it comes to the transfer window this summer.

Chelsea boss slams side for dismal performance

Chelsea came into the fixture as the favourites and it was expected that Tuchel would comfortably secure three points. However, the Blues succumbed to the defeat and the sensational performance put up the home side during the match.

Moreover, Chelsea just could not find answers to the heavy press set up by Marsch’s men on the pitch. Manager Tuchel was obviously dissatisfied with the performance of his men and spoke regarding the same in an interview.

He said-

“I think we lost it in the first 20 minutes. We created enough chances, half chances, and chances to be 1-0 or 2-0 up.

Then we lost the discipline, the repetition of what we wanted to do and what we did okay in the first 20 minutes. Instead of 2-0, it became an even match and in that even match, we gave two goals away that were cheap and unnecessary.

“And then the game is almost done because you lift the spirit, the belief. In the second half, we tried, but it’s the same story: we had deliveries, half chances, shots, but we can’t score, and we concede from a half chance.”

Adding to the miseries, Kalidou Koulibaly ended up receiving a red card that proved to be crucial for the side. He further said-

“He knows himself. With these kinds of mistakes, I don’t think we need to speak a lot. He knows himself that this was a mistake, and honestly, this has nothing to do with protection or no protection.

What seems certain is that Chelsea desperately requires a striker this summer for the rest of the season.
