Meanwhile, the Blues have recently signed Noni Madueke from PSV for a reported transfer fee of £28.5 million as per The Athletic. The English youngster started his youth career in Crystal Palace and eventually earned a professional contract there.
The signing of Noni Madueke gives Chelsea an abundance of quality players in the attacking department. Meanwhile, Graham Potter’s side still needs to fix the right-back and defensive midfielder positions.
The likes of Cesar Azpilicueta and Jorginho are going through a rough patch of form. Meanwhile, Reece James and N’golo Kante are still out injured. The Blues’ management is ready to splash the cash to get good alternatives in those positions.
Targets of Chelsea as defensive midfielders
Things are expected to get busier again for the clubs as they would be entering the final week of the transfer window. Meanwhile, Chelsea is looking busier than the rest of the clubs. They have spent approximately $500 million in buying players in the transfer window.
The new management under the ownership of Todd Boehly is looking forward to an overall upgrade of the squad. Meanwhile, they are ready to spend hefty amounts for that purpose.
The midfield area is one of the areas that the management is currently focussing on. Meanwhile, the two primary targets in the shape Enzo Fernandez of Benfica and Moses Caicedo of Brighton are too expensive to sign.
Moreover, the hopes of signing Enzo Fernandez ended as Benfica rejected the offers from Chelsea. According to The Guardian, Chelsea are considering taking a defensive midfielder on loan because Brighton’s Moises Caicedo may prove too expensive.
The loan move makes sense as Chelsea would be preparing a big offer in order to sign Declan Rice this summer. So, it remains to be seen which players the Chelsea management would target to improve the midfield area.
