Chelsea are keeping a close eye on the Brentford striker

Chelsea

Sports journalist has reported that Chelsea is keeping close tabs on Brentford striker Ivan Toney. Meanwhile, the Blues are searching for a long-term solution to their attacking departments.

Meanwhile, Chelsea has already spent over £600 million in the winter transfer window. However, Chelsea management is still trying to find a good goalscoring central attacker.

Moreover, the lack of a good center-forward has caused Graham Potter’s side to score just 22 goals in 21 Premier league matches this season. Owing to these poor performances, Potter’s men stand 9th in the League table.

Chelsea looking forward to signing Ivan Toney

As per journalist Simon Philips, Brentford striker Ivan Toney can solve the center-forward situation of Chelsea. The English forward has netted 13 goals in 19 matches for Brentford this season.

Meanwhile, this outstanding performance has made Chelsea management interested in the 26-year-old striker. Simon Philips said to GiveMeSport (as quoted by CaughtOffside):

“Ivan Toney is a player that Chelsea really like, and that’s from the new regime and the new recruitment team. He’s a name that they put forward.”

But obviously the situation with his gambling issues and what’s going to happen there, what kind of ban he’s going to get, Chelsea have to wait and see what happens. But Toney is a strong candidate for a striker in the summer.

Meanwhile, Toney’s performance has an xG of 11.01 and a goal conversion rate of 24%. He has also provided 3 assists for Brentford this season. However, his off-field issue may act as a hindrance in the signing. The Guardian reported that he has been charged with over 250 breaches of betting rules by the Football Association (FA).

Meanwhile, the Blues might have to spend nearly £40 million to acquire the services of Ivan Toney. So, it remains to be seen how things unfold in the summer transfer window.
