Bukayo Saka admits he was a fan of ex-Arsenal star who Unai Emery let go

Arsenal ace Bukayo Saka revealed that he was a fan of Chilean forward Alexis Sanchez during his time at the Emirates.

The youngster has been thriving since his arrival on the big stage. He has had an excellent campaign for Arsenal this season with 11 goal contributions. On Monday, he shone with a brace once more against Iran.

Saka faced heartbreak during the Euros, as his missed penalty had caused Italy to win the tournament and brought heartbreak to England. His bounce-back since then though, has been remarkable. He has shown off immense amounts of talent, skill, mental strength, and potential and is a crucial starter for both Club and Country.

He will be looking forward to England’s confrontation with the USA to add to his World Cup goals tally.

Bukayo Saka about Alexis Sanchez

During an interview ahead of the game, he was inquired regarding his time as an Arsenal fan. Regarding the topic, he said:

“I used to love the older generation players like Thierry Henry.

“And because I was at Arsenal, I used to be able to go to games and at that time I loved Alexis Sanchez. He was one of my favourite players.”

Sanchez arrived at Arsenal from Barcelona for a  £35 million fee. His time at the Emirates saw 80 goals and 45 assists in 166 appearances for the Gunners. Sanchez had been considered one of Arsenal’s best players, and one of the best forwards in the Premier League.

Bukayo Saka does share similarities with the Chilean. The English youngster plays a somewhat similar role, and also gets involved in the play to get goals and assists the way the Chilean had.

Sanchez’s time at Arsenal came to a bitter end, as he departed for Manchester United. His time at Old Trafford certainly made him regret his decision though.

However, it is unlikely that Saka would follow the same path as the Chilean. The youngster is already well on his way to becoming a club hero to the Gunners, not unlike what Harry Kane represents to Tottenham.
