Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has said that Granit Xhaka directly told him that he wanted to leave the Gunners. That is in the summer transfer window itself.

Manager Mikel Arteta has told Arsenal’s official website that Granit Xhaka told him of his desire to leave the North London club. He wanted a new challenge elsewhere in the later part of his career.

The Switzerland international midfielder recently joined Bayer Leverkusen. That is from Arsenal in the summer transfer window. Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen have paid Premier League outfit Arsenal £21.4 million. This is in transfer fees for Xhaka (Sky Sports).

Arsenal really wanted Arteta and Xhaka together for one more season

Arteta said about Xhaka’s exit:

There are three parts to this – he had a very clear desire that it was the right time and a big opportunity for him personally to move there.

We had that conversation. And in the end, we all agreed that it was the right thing to move forward.”

In our opinion, if Granit Xhaka personally wanted to leave Arsenal in the summer transfer window. Then the North London club were right to sell him.

Yes, the Swiss star was brilliant for Arsenal last season. But he probably felt that he had done all he could do for the Gunners. And he is 30 now.

Granit Xhaka did not always have the best of times at Arsenal. But he was really very good for the North London club last season. And he has helped them finish second in the Premier League table.
