Arsenal star edging closer on loan move to Marseille

Arsenal

Arsenal defender Nuno Tavares is a step away from securing a move to Ligue 1 club Marseille on loan this summer.

The Gunners left-back was linked on a move away from the Emirates since the beginning of the transfer window. Arsenal wanted the player to leave the club on a loan this summer considering that he may not have much game time.

Prior to the interest from the Ligue 1 outfit, Italian club Atalanta were keen to secure his services this summer. However, as the negotiations stalled, Tavares is now close to donning the Marseille outfit for the next season.

Tavares will leave Arsenal on loan

The 22-year-old has not been the go-to left-back for manager Mikel Arteta and has been sidelined on many occasions. Even though Kieran Tierney was out injured, it was expected that Arteta would back the services of Tavares.

However, the gaffer chose to deploy midfielder Granit Xhaka in the left-back region to cover the back line. Clearly, Tavares does not seem to have cemented his spot as a regular in the Arsenal squad.

Speaking on the long list of players i.e., the size of the squad, the manager shared his view. He said-

“We have a large squad so we have to make some decisions as well on the players that we’re not going to be using consistently and be fair and straight with them.

“That’s a process that is going to start very soon as well. We have to [move players on], we have a big squad and now we have to make things happen.”

However, the club is clear that they want a straight-out loan with no option to buy next summer. The Ligue 1 outfit has agreed with the clause and is considering the option to buy him this summer on loan.
