Arsenal reach agreement with Nottingham for the sale of Turner

Arsenal

Arsenal have now reached an agreement with Nottingham Forest over the transfer of goalkeeper Matt Turner today.

This is according to David Ornstein. He confirmed that the 29-year-old is set for a medical later today. That is with the deal set to be completed.

This now also means that Arsenal will likely complete a deal to sign Brentford goalkeeper David Raya. He will replace Turner to provide competition for Aaron Ramsdale and for the no 1 spot.

It is currently unclear what the fee for Turner will be. But a deal is now in place and will likely be confirmed in the coming days. This is as reported in The Athletic.

Nottingham Forest targeted Turner as they sought out a new goalkeeper. After having loaned Dean Henderson and Keylor Navas from Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain last season.

Arsenal will go for Raya as Turner leaves

The USA number one arrived from New England Revolution last year. Having built up a reputation as one of the best goalkeepers in MLS due to his performances the season’s before.

He failed to make a single league appearance for Arsenal. That is with Ramsdale an ever-present as Mikel Arteta’s side finished second. But he did appear in the FA Cup and Europa League and ayed really well.

Arteta described him as “phenomenal” after keeping a clean sheet against Bodo/Glimt. That is in the Europa League group stages. But it was clear that he did not trust Turner for the big occasions. And he was always set to be a backup to Ramsdale. Rather than a true competitor for his spot.
