Arsenal pushing to strike a deal for signing Alexander Bah

Arsenal

Arsenal is reportedly considering bringing in Benfica defender Alexander Bah this summer, according to the Danish news source Tipsbladet. Evening Standard also reports that Arsenal might submit an offer today to sign the defender. This summer, the Gunners have been active in the transfer market, spending more than £200 million to get stars including Declan Rice, Kai Havertz, Jurrien Timber, and David Raya. However, they now have extra funds to add players to their squad after selling Folarin Balogun to Monaco for just over £34 million.

Arsenal deems Benfica defender Alexander Bah as a ‘ideal’ replacement

Especially with Jurrien Timber’s knee ligament injury setback, the Gunners’ defensive unit currently lacks depth. In order to improve the calibre and depth of their back four, the Londoners signed the Dutchman earlier this summer. However, he suffered a catastrophic injury on the first day of the season, which forced him to miss several months of action. Arsenal is currently under pressure to sign replacements, and they have set their sights on the Benfica defender Bah.

In recent years, Benfica has developed into a talent factory. Bah might be the next on that list after Enzo Fernandez, Darwin Nunez, Ruben Dias, and Luka Jovic all left the team for huge transfer fees.

The 25-year-old made a summer transfer to Benfica ina deal worth just £8 million. He enjoyed an outstanding campaign, contributing to 23 clean sheets in 42 games across all competitions. Last season, he scored one goal as well as provided seven assists across all competitions. The Denmark star is also extremely versatile and can play left back, right back, centre back, and left wing. According to reports, Bah’s asking price is between €30 and €35 million. Thus, It is uncertain whether Arsenal would be willing to pay that much for him.

Before Friday’s transfer deadline, the Gunners will also be looking into signing Eric Garcia, Danish Viking, Victor Nelsson, and Jeremie Frimpong as other defensive targets. This season, the Arsenal will play in the UEFA Champions League. Hence they will require a good squad depth to compete effectively in many competitions.
