According to sources from Football Insider, Nuno Tavares is unlikely to feature for Arsenal in the future. Since, he got permission to finalize a transfer this month. Arsenal is reportedly engaging in discussions to sell the 23-year-old to Nottingham Forest. Thus, aiming to secure a profit exceeding £10 million through the transaction.
Nuno Tavarescwas acquired by Arsenal in 2021 from Benfica. He was absent from the 20-man squad for Arsenal’s Premier League season opener against Forest last weekend. As a result, he has found himself moving further away from regular involvement within the team.
As it currently stands, Nuno Tavares finds himself behind Oleksandr Zinchenko, new signing Jurrien Timber. The latter is recuperating from a significant knee injury sustained during his league debut. With all these players ahead of him, Tavares’ chances of securing a place in the starting lineup are limited.
Why are Arsenal thinking of offloading Tavares?
Tavares showcased his abilities during a loan spell at Marseille last season, which garnered attention. Aside from Nottingham Forest, West Ham also appears to have an interest in him. Arsenal is reportedly seeking a fee of £20 million for Tavares, who came from Benfica for £8 million two years ago.
During the 2021-22 season, the Portuguese defender participated in a total of 28 matches, out of which he made 13 starts in the Premier League.
Tavares encountered a particularly challenging moment when he was replaced after just 35 minutes during Arsenal’s FA Cup third-round defeat against Nottingham Forest.
His time in France proved to be more rewarding. Since, he managed to score six goals in a total of 39 appearances across various competitions for Marseille.
The Scotland international struggled to secure regular playing time last season due to injury concerns and the addition of Oleksandr Zinchenko from Manchester City during the summer of 2022. Zinchenko, a left-back who aligns better with Arteta’s tactical approach, posed a challenge for Tierney’s minutes on the field.
