Arsenal ‘eager’ to sign Crystal Palace defender this week

Arsenal

Dean Jones, a transfer insider, recently revealed that Arsenal are on their quest to sign defender Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace. A few weeks ago, there were rumours that Guehi may return to Stamford Bridge. However Chelsea didn’t submit an offer. It seemed like they have changed their mind for signing their defensive target. But now with Gunners are keen on signing the England international, Chelsea rekindles their interest. A new center-back is being sought by the both Arsenal and Chelsea after Jurrien Timber and Wesley Fofana’s injury respectively. Moreover Guehi’s exorbitant asking price could discourage the Gunners from submitting a bid. Even at this point in his career, Guehi might not even be enthusiastic about the transfer.

Arsenal has shown interest for signing Marc Guehi

The Palace player, who stands at 6 feet, is not the tallest of centre backs, but he has been very productive for Palace throughout the past two seasons. His efforts earned him an England call-up, and he played for the Three Lions against Malta in the summer as a result. The former Swansea City player is known for his “incredible” tackling; no player under the age of 21 had a better tackle success rate in England’s top two divisions during the 2020–21 season. The 22-year-old may be prepared to advance to a team the stature of Arsenal now that he has established himself in the top division. But there is uncertainty whether transfer will take place before the deadlinen or not.

Crystal Palace wants to retain their top player by any means

Dean Jones confirms Arsenal’s interest. He says Arsenal might be pushing for the player as there are interest for Takehiro Tomiyasu from Palace. Hence, there is a probability of lowering Guehi’s asking price if they send Takehiro Tomiyasu in exchange. However the journalist adds: “Palace have no intention to lose Guehi and value him very, very highly.”

Dean Jones asserts that Palace wants a very high price to sell him this suumer. He says, “Earlier in the window I was being told of a £60m valuation on him and to be honest at this stage of the window it has probably risen.”

Guehi wants regular game-time for making it to the England Squad. Thus, He would be unsure of how he fits in with Gabriel, William Saliba, Ben White, and Jurrien Timber over the course of the season. Hence, to avoid being benched, it’s better for him to stay at Crystal Palace.

Arsenal still has three players on their radar: Galatasaray’s Victor Nelsson (£21m), Edmond Tapsoba (£50m), Perr Schuurs(€30-35 million). Arteta might be happy to add any new defender who can fit in his system.
