Arsenal could invest in a right sided winger as a backup option

Arsenal

Arsenal could invest on a right-sided winger and another midfielder. This is only if they manage to sell players this summer, Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth claims.

The Gunners have already spent over £200 million in the transfer window. Kai Havertz recently joined from Chelsea. While Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber should arrive soon.

The focus is now expected to be on outgoings. The club recently allowed Xhaka to join Bayer Leverkusen for £21m. There could be several more departures.

Sheth reports that the Gunners could continue their spending later in the summer transfer window. However, provided they can recoup sufficient funds from player sales.

Arsenal need a right sided winger as a backup for Saka

The Gunners currently have plenty of wide attacking options in the squad. But they have lacked quality back-up behind Bukayo Saka on the right flank.

Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard, Emile Smith Rowe and Reiss Nelson are all comfortable playing from the left wing. The club need a suitable deputy for Saka. If some injury happens to Saka then Arsenal are doomed.

Bayer Leverkusen star Moussa Diaby has been linked. But we would personally prefer his teammate Jeremie Frimpong. Who had a fantastic campaign.

The Dutchman is a right wing-back by trade, and largely prefers to operate in the opposition half. Last season, the £43m-rated star registered 9 goals and 11 assists. This is for the Bundesliga outfit.

He won an impressive 2.5 take-ons per game. But also fared well defensively with 1.6 tackles and 6.1 duels won. He would be a good acquisition for Arsenal.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are known to be interested in Southampton’s Romeo Lavia. But a transfer could depend on Thomas Partey heading for the exit door.

Partey is attracting interest from Saudi Arabian clubs. Juventus also hold an interest in his services.

The Gunners want at least £30m for him. If a transfer materialises with any club.
