Arsenal backed to win against Southampton, but Arteta to be disappointed with World Cup placement

About Football Express UK

Ex-Manchester City player Joleon Lescott has backed Arsenal to continue their strong start to the season by beating Southampton on Sunday. However, he has stated that Gunner’s manager Mikel Arteta will be disappointed with the World Cup’s schedule in November.

The Gunners go to St. Mary’s Stadium on Sunday as strong favorites. They have had their best start to a Season, with only one loss and nine wins in ten League games. Joleon Lescott foresees a comfortable 2-0 win for the Gunners.

The World Cup and Arsenal losing momentum?

Lescott claimed that Mikel Arteta will be disappointed with the placement of the World Cup, due to the possibility that they may lose their current momentum.

About the World Cup, Lescott had this to say:

“There has been discussion this week about whether the Gunners will still be top heading into next month’s World Cup and I see no reason why they can’t be. One thing I do know for sure, Mikel Arteta will be gutted there is an extended break coming up. When you have the kind of momentum his side are enjoying, you just want the games to keep coming thick and fast. The chasing pack will have a chance to re-focus and refresh themselves, while Arsenal have a long time to think about the state of play.”

Arsenal currently sits
top of the league with 27 points and a game against Manchester City in hand. They stand four points clear of Manchester City and Tottenham, who are spots two and three respectively. After a dominant performance against PSV, they also stand at the top of their Europa League group.
