Wolverhampton Wanderers have good news as striker Hwang Hee-Chan returns to team training. The South Korean has been sidelined with a hamstring injury picked up during December.
The news of Hwang Hee-Chan returning to training came via the Twitter post of Wolves. However, it is still not clear if the 25-year-old could make an earlier than expected return to the playing team.
Wolves are currently sitting 8th in the Premier League table after a 3-1 victory over Southampton. The return of Hwang Hee-Chan will boost the side, who have only scored 17 times in the league so far. It could also be good news for the South Korean national side as they prepare for their World Cup 2022 qualifiers.
IMPRESSIVE WOLVES
It has been a good time for Wolverhampton Wanderers under new manager Bruno Lage. They sit comfortably at 8th in the Premier League with 31 points from 20 matches. They are separated from 4th place West Ham United by 6 points, even though Wolves have played 2 games less.
Wolves are in a good position at the moment, mainly due to their defensive solidity. They have just conceded 15 goals, which is the second least conceded by any team in the League. They are only behind Manchester City, who have let in 13 goals this season so far.
For all their defensive ability, the side is still weak going forward. Their 17 goals scored is the third-worst in the league, only ahead of bottom-placed Burnley and Norwich. This meant that while Wolves do not concede much, they also struggle to score on the other side.
This is why the news of Hwang Hee-Chan returning to the team is big news. The South Korean is the top scorer of the side in the Premier League, level with Raul Jimenez. While Hwang has scored his 4 goals from 12 matches, it took Jimenez 19 matches to level with his teammate.
HWANG HEE-CHAN RETURN, VITAL FOR BOTH CLUB AND NATION
This is why the return of Hwang Hee-Chan to training is good news for Bruno Lage’s side. The 25-year-old striker can play across the front line and was forming a good partnership with Jimenez. His instinct inside the box helped in creating chances and scoring the goals.
Hwang Hee-Chan is currently on loan at Wolves after an unimpressive first season with his parent club RB Leipzig. The move to Premier League was important for the player in helping him to restore his confidence and get valuable playing time. He has already missed 6 games for Wolves and will be hoping to be back soon.
The return of the 25-year-old is also important for the South Korean national side. The nation will go into the coming international break to compete for their qualification into the 2022 World Cup. They already have Son Heung-Min missing from the team due to an injury. If Hwang Hee-Chan can make himself fit for the international break, it will help the Asian side in their qualification.
While the photos suggest that the South Korean is back in training, it is still not sure when he will be able to play. Wolves play Brentford next on Sunday and if things go well, Hwang Hee-Chan could even make an appearance from the bench.
