What Manchester City stands to gain from the Pedro Porro deal with Tottenham

Chelsea Transfer Guardiola

Following earlier this week announced that they had signed Arnaut Danjuma on a loan. It now only seems a matter of time before Spurs announce Pedro Porro as their second acquisition of the January transfer window.

This season, the Sporting CP star has been one of the team’s top players and a powerful force on the flank. The impact Porro has had on the Leoes is evident in his stat line for Sporting. It includes three goals and 11 assists in 25 appearances.

The 23-year-old is a perfect fit for Antonio Conte‘s style because of his attacking zeal and defensive awareness. The marauding full-backs who gallop all over the field the whole game help the Italian’s favored 3-5-2 style come to life.

Tottenham received the left-side dynamism they needed with the acquisition of Ivan Perisic last summer. That contrasts sharply with Matt Doherty’s erratic play and Emerson Royal’s difficulties on the other flank, though. This January, something had to be done, and Daniel Levy and the company knew Porro was the answer right away.

Fabrizio Romano claims that the right-back has already reached an agreement with Spurs on a five-and-a-half-year contract. And that both Sporting and the Premier League club are “confident” of finalizing the deal shortly.

How Manchester City will benefit from the Pedro Porro deal?

According to Sky Sports, Man City will benefit greatly from Porro’s upcoming transfer to Spurs. Because they have a 30% sell-on clause on the Spaniard.

The provision was included when the 23-year-old moved to Lisbon permanently from the Etihad last summer for £7.2 million following a productive loan stint at the Jose Alvalade Stadium.

An agreement that Spurs will earn £11.7 million. Only if they met Porro’s entire £39 million release clause.

I wonder whether Sporting and Spurs are negotiating a transaction arrangement that would allow Sporting to keep as much of the transfer fee as possible. That could well be the cause of the holdup in the two clubs’ negotiations.
