West Ham United vs Chelsea Match Preview

Bertrand Traore

It is another clash in London as West Ham United will face league leaders Chelsea on Saturday. Both the teams had a successful start to the Premier League season and will hope to continue that.

West Ham had to settle for a draw in their midweek match against Brighton, due to a late goal from Neal Maupey. Chelsea however was lucky according to manager Thomas Tuchel after they clinch a victory against Watford.

The sides for London are bossing at the top of the Premier League. But other teams are on their tail and hence they cannot afford to lose. West Ham is holding onto 4th place in the Premier League and is separated from Wolves by just 3 points. Chelsea on the other hand are in a big title race with Manchester City and Liverpool and do not want to lose their slender lead over them.

WEST HAM UNITED VS CHELSEA: INJURIES AND TEAM NEWS

There were no new injuries for the Hammers after their match against Brighton. They will be without Angelo Ogbonna, who is still a long way from his return.

Aaron Cresswell is a doubt. However, manager David Moyes is hopeful that his first choice left-back returns before a crucial match.

Chelsea will be without Ben Chilwell and Mateo Kovacic, who are the long term absentees. There are doubts regarding the availability of Trevor Chalobah, who picked up an injury against Watford. Reece James and N’Golo Kante are also doubts for the fixture as Blues travel to the London Stadium.

POSSIBLE LINEUPS AND PREDICTIONS

WEST HAM UNITED: Lukasz Fabianski; Ben Johnson, Craig Dawson, Kurt Zouma, Aaron Cresswell; Tomas Soucek, Declan Rice; Jarrod Bowen, Said Benrahma, Pablo Fornals; Michail Antonio.

CHELSEA: Edouard Mendy; Andreas Christensen, Thiago Silva, Antonio Rudiger; Cesar Azpilicueta, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Jorginho, Marcus Alonso; Mason Mount, Romelu Lukaku, Kai Havertz

PREDICTIONS: West Ham United 2-2 Chelsea

Chelsea’s performance against Watford midweek did show signs of weakness in the team. The Tuchel side is not their best when the wing-backs James and Chilwell are around. With Chilwell out for the month and James being doubtful for the weekend, the European champions will need others to step up.

West Ham themselves are not in the best run of results but are very resolute in their defence. This is especially true when facing tougher opposition and if they can find a way to upset the Chelsea rhythm, the likes of Antonio and Bowen can create trouble for Mendy.

Chelsea will try and dominate from the start of the match. But the Hammers have shown their ability this season and hence a 2-2 draw is our prediction.
