West Ham take cheeky dig at Leicester’s Europa elimination

Leicester United vs West Ham United

West Ham United will face Sevilla in the Round-of-16 of the Europa League. However, The Irons took a savage shot at fellow Premier League club Leicester City.

Leicester were eliminated in the group stages of the competition. The Foxes couldn’t progress past Spartak Moskva and Napoli in what was a group.

Therefore West Ham are currently the only English side left in the competition. They qualified out of a group involving Dinamo Zagreb, Rapid Wien and Genk.

The West Ham official Twitter account posted an eye-catching picture ahead of their now-confirmed last-16 tie against Sevilla, depicting an arcade machine with players Jarrod Bowen and Said Benrahma selecting their opposition.

However, eagle-eyed fans have noticed a cheeky dig aimed at Leicester for no longer being in the competition.

An inscription on the arcade machine read: “LEICESTER WOZ ERE.” The Foxes missed out by two points after winning just two of their six group games.

WEST HAM EUROPA ROAD

David Moyes’ West Ham will be eager to secure a trophy and believe in their ability to do so. Hammers fans believe that this is their time to aim for silverware and they have the best of chances to do so for the first time since 1960.

West Ham will be up against a difficult opposition in Sevilla. The Andalusian side are currently 2nd in La Liga, comfortably ahead of heavyweights Atletico Madrid and FC Barcelona. It will be an intense matchup between the two sides come March.

The Hammers have lost just one game in the competition so far – that being a 1-0 home defeat to Zagreb in December.

Moyes’ side face competition from four other Premier League clubs for the remaining European qualification places next season.

While a monumental task, victory in the Europa League would guarantee them a place in the prestigious Champions League for the first time ever.
