West Ham looking to sign Denis Zakaria from Borussia Monchengladbach

About Football Express UK

West Ham are interested in signing Denis Zakaria from Borussia Monchengladbach. The Swiss international has garnered the interest of many big clubs. His contract with Borussia ends in June 2022, after which he will become a free agent.

Manchester City and Liverpool are also monitoring his situation as well. According to Calciomercato , West Ham have joined the race as well to sign him.

It is possible that the 25-year-old can go to a big club like Barcelona, Juventus and Bayern also feigning interest recently.

David Moyes’s side has been incredible this season. They gained lots of confidence and popularity particularly after beating every big PL side. The Hammers beat Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Spurs in the 2021/22 season. They are not showing signs of slowing down and are looking to get their top 4 spots in the table.

However, one problem Moyes faces is the lack of squad depth. West Ham are also looking to sign a centre forward as well but if they succeed in signing Zakariya, then they have Soucek, Fornals and Rice as well.

Is Denis Zakaria a player like Declan Rice at West Ham?

Denis joined Borussia Monchengladbach in 2017 and has been a vital part of the squad ever since. He has made 120 appearances for the club and has 11 goals and 4 assists.

Zakaria received fewer chances last season solely because of injuries, but at his best, he is a quality defensive midfielder. Just like him, the ex Chelsea youngster, Rice is also a defensive midfielder. He has blossomed over the years and has performed consistently in the DM position earning a £70 million tag on his name.

Declan Rice is only 22 years old and has great defensive qualities. Zakaria on the other hand is also great in front of the back four. He provides consistent numbers in tackles and interceptions for Borussia. Both Rice and Zakaria play in similar positions, will West Hamlet go of either of them? The answer is no.

Both can play in a midfield duo which will provide more freedom for Benrahma to operate and create.

West Ham also have a defensive concern but if they succeed in signing Zakaria, then they will not have to spend big on a centre back.
