West Ham vs Chelsea FC 3-2 : Post Match Analysis

About Football Express UK

On Matchweek 15, West Ham beat Chelsea in an exciting London Derby. The Hammers put in an excellent effort to beat Chelsea 3-2.

The Blues started the game on a great note with the opponents growing dangerous as well. Tomas Soucek headed the ball wide whereas Ruben Loftus Cheek did well in defending a set-piece.

A cross from Mason Mount found Thiago Silva in a goal-scoring chance which he utilised properly after heading the ball. Silva not only contributed in the attack but then also stopped Coufal from equalising. He cleared off a low shot from his own goal line.

Jorginho then made a sloppy mistake just like he did against Manchester United. His short back-pass caught Mendy up ahead, leading Edouard to foul Bowen. The referee then handed The Hammers a well-deserved penalty which Lanzini executed without any haste.

Just one minute before halftime, Hakim Ziyech passed the ball brilliantly to Mount who volleyed it to make it 2-1.

Despite Chelsea dominating Moyes’s side in the first half, they returned with hope and valour in the second half. Antonio powered a knockdown and passed the ball to Jarrod Bowen who powered a goal against Mendy.

The crowd went wild after the equaliser but they did not know what was coming next. In the 87th minute, West Ham were looking dangerous as they searched for the winner. Arthur Masuaku tried to curl it in with his left foot but somehow he mishit the cross and it dipped in the net. Mendy tried to catch the cross but unfortunately, it was an unexpected shot that found the back of the net. The crowd went absolutely mad with Masuaku scoring the winner to beat Chelsea.

Post Match comments from West Ham and Chelsea manager:

David Moyes stated that

“It was a very fortunate goal, let’s not kid ourselves. Truthfully I didn’t think we played that well today, but we got the goals.”

Meanwhile, Tuchel, after the match said

“It is impossible to make so many mistakes and expect a result,”

.

Things to learn from West Ham vs Chelsea:

  1. Michail Antonio created 4 chances against Chelsea and has created a total of 29 chances in the Premier League. No other centre forward has created more chances over Europe’s top 5 leagues.

2. The title race is wide open after Chelsea have dropped valuable points against Manchester United and now against West Ham.

3 . West Ham are still in the top 4 battle despite losing Ogbonna and Cresswell. They made a brilliant comeback twice and beat The Blues. Maybe just possibly David Moyes can lead his side to the top 4.
