West Ham and Chelsea were said to have showed interest in Newcastle centre-forward, Callum Wilson back in January. He was linked to clubs abroad, somewhere in Spain and Italy.
Football journalist, Fabrizio Romano, has claimed that Newcastle United have reached an agreement to sign William Osula from Sheffield United. Newcastle will pay £10 million up front with a further £5 million in possible add-ons. The move for the 20-year-old prospect will surely raise doubts over current striker Callum Wilson’s future.
Chelsea and West Ham want Wilson
The 31-year-old striker, who has a proven track record in the league, is being linked to Premier League clubs like West Ham United, Arsenal and Chelsea. Though he has spent much time recovering from an injury, Wilson’s seven goals in just 14 Premier League outings this term see him rank among the most prolific scorers in England.
The Tyneside club are likely to have no option but sell some of their key players. This also includes Wilson and in order to gain a bit more money for fresh faces, it might be necassary. Surprisingly, Miguel Almiron and Kieran Trippier have also been linked with shock exits as they were offered to Bayern Munich. Bayern have reportedly refused to go for Trippier.
Wilson is said to be valued at around £20 million. Newcastle want to keep the player, but they are braced for offers that match their requirements. West Ham and Chelsea have expressed the most interest from these clubs. West Ham, though, are targeting Wilson as a possible option if they part ways with Danny Ings. The Hammers want to bring in someone who can become more of a long-term leader for their attack. And when quizzed on the transfer speculation during an appearance on the Footballer’s Football Podcast – hosted by Ricky Haywood-Williams, Wilson offered a short response to say “no” with few more details about potential exit rumours.
Newcastle to Sign William Osula
Newcastle United supporters were expecting a world class signing on the cards for them to be able to afford for this window. Instead, the Magpies are looking to get out as many players as possible and only brought two in during the window – Lloyd Kelly and Odysseas Vlachodimos. As many of the future exits are thought to be from the attacking department, Howe is focused on making key signings for the position.
There is also the speculation over the exit of Anthony Gordon. The former Everton winger has been linked to a possible move to Liverpool. However, Howe insists that he will not green light a sale for either Gordon or, Alexander Isak in attack. Chelsea winger, Noni Madueke and Fiorentina forward, Nicolas Gonzalez, have also attracted interest from the Tyneside club. Miguel Almiron could be sold to earn much needed transfer revenue. Callum Wilson could share the same fate if a suitable offer is put on the table.
The arrival of full back William Osula from Sheffield United could be an absolute masterstroke on a bigger picture. Although his 21 Premier League appearances last season produced no goals or assists, Newcastle see potential in him and are keen to push through a deal. At £10m up front and rising to around £15million in add-ons, it is a big statement of intent from the Magpies.
The potential signing of Osula could be an indication that the Magpies are considering the bigger picture. While Osula may not be the high-profile signing that fans had hoped for, his arrival could prove pivotal. His development will be crucial, particularly in a team where the depth of quality often determines long-term success.
