Virgil van Dijk could be featuring soon for Liverpool in the recent few weeks. The 30-year-old centre-back is now recovering from a serious knee injury and would be keen on featuring for the Reds after a long gap of nine months.
The Holland international didn’t feature for the first three training games in Austria. However, he could make a limited appearance in their friendly against Bundesliga giants Hertha Berlin.
Currently, he is in the rehabilitation camp alongside fellow teammates Joel Matip, Trent Alexander Arnold and Joe Gomez. Will fully-fit van Dijk lead Liverpool to yet another title?
Van Dijk looks ready, claims Liverpool gaffer Jurgen Klopp
Virgil van Dijk missed the majority of the last season as the Reds finished at 3rd place although failing to defend their title. The defence was the main weak point and his return as well as that of Joe Gomez would be major happy news!
Tactician Klopp affirmed that the veteran defender would surely be getting at least some playing time against Berlin as per Liverpool’s official website. The coach added,
“He looks really good in training and maybe we can bring (him in), but I need to have some final conversations. He looks ready and we will see.”
The Merseyside club is now waiting patiently so as to allow its players to recover well and achieve full fitness. Klopp said,
“Losing a little bit of patience for them to return as a supporter or as a coach even is not bad, it just means they were pretty good and we want them to be back in the team.”
His teammate Joe Gomez would be playing next match if Van Dijk successfully plays the match against Berlin. However, the former Southampton man has been included in the 25-member team for the Premier League starting from August 14th this year.
