Roma have shown interest in Manchester United defender Aaron Wan Bissaka. United have a new manager at the helm in the form of Erik Ten Hag. Ten Hag will be rebuilding the squad in the Summer. And according to reports, Wan Bissaka is not part of his plans.
Wan Bissaka has had a terrible season this time around as United finished 6th. The whole United defense was in shambles and conceded as much as they scored. The only reason they didn’t let in more goals was due to De Gea being in his best form. If it wasn’t for De Gea, United could have been in the relegation battle.
Wan Bissaka was the preferred right back under Ole in the first half of the tournament. However, after his exit and Rangnick‘s appointment, Dalot was preferred over Wan Bissaka. Although Wan Bissaka had enough game time to prove himself, He ultimately failed to do so. Which essentially put his place in the squad in jeopardy and Dalot swooped in. However, Dalot was not much of an improvement over Wan Bissaka.
Roma’s interest
Roma are on a high as they have lifted their first European trophy under Jose Mourinho. The board completely trusts Mourinho’s vision and wants to back him. They are allowing him to buy the players he needs for his squad and Mourinho wants Wan Bissaka. Wan Bissaka has a market value of 30m.
Wan Bissaka has decent defensive abilities however lacks in the attacking department. This was one of the primary reasons why Rangnick preferred Dalot. Moreover, this is also the reason why Ten Hag will prefer Dalot in the coming season.
However, Mourinho employs a defensive playstyle where they attack during counterattacks. This is perfect for Wan Bissaka as he played in such an environment under Ole last season. Ole changed the playstyle into possession-based which was why many players couldn’t adapt and United had a bad season. However, Mourinho will stick to his vision and Wan Bissaka could have the perfect system to flourish.
