Transfers: Newcastle United target Hugo Ekitike in 40m deal

About Football Express UK

Newcastle United are in the chase for Reims striker Hugo Ekitike. Newcastle had almost finalized a deal during the January transfer window. However, they never managed to agree on terms and the move fell through.

This time around Newcastle are not sitting back and wants the striker at all costs. They are willing to put 40m on the table for Ekitike. They were willing to do that back in January however they were not quick enough to materialize a move.

Eddie Howe needs a new striker in the team. Ekitike, 20, is young and on the rise. Hence, it is unlikely he will be a mainstay in the squad at least for the first season. He is likely to be used as a rotation player and be regarded as a future prospect, One that could go on to achieve greatness.

Ekitike needs to realize the opportunity in his hands. However, he also needs to understand the cons of the operation. Newcastle are a team in transition. They are going to be under a severe rebuild as the board will try to bring in big players into the squad. Newcastle are aiming to be on the top by buying their way as City did before them. Such a team will always have darker days before the bright ones shine on them. Ekitike needs to value his time and his priorities.

Ekitike: A top player

Reims Coach Oscar Garcia had spoken highly about the youngster a while ago.

“There is something very special about him. He’s young, and he has the quality to become a very good player. He’s started a lot of games now, he’s a young man with a lot of quality but also a lot to improve on, but he works hard in training.”
