Transfers: Nathan Ake to leave Manchester City?

Nathan Ake

Nathan Ake is likely to leave Manchester City in the Summer. According to sources, City officials have told Ake to look for a new club. This does not come as a shock since Ake hasn’t been featured in the squad since arriving two years ago.

Ake hasn’t had much game time in the last couple of years. Ake has only started in 24 Premier League matches in the last two seasons. This is due to the fact that Ruben Dias and John Stones have been the first choice center backs for City. Moreover, the duo has been amazing for City whenever they started and has managed to produce excellent defensive display. Although most of the time City does not need a lot of defensive covers as they keep possession of the ball.

As such Ake will be looking to leave in the Summer.

Danny Mills gives his view

Former Manchester City defender Danny Mills has praised Ake’s ability however questioned his role at the club. He said:

“He (Ake) hasn’t had a huge amount of football at Manchester City, but he’s a good player. He came through at Chelsea, played well at Bournemouth, but was he good enough to be a regular starter at Manchester City?

Probably not, is the answer. And still ‘probably not’ is the answer when you talk about winning the title and trying to win the Champions League. He’s a very good Premier League player and obviously features for his national side as well.

He’s good in terms of serving a purpose, but I would still have some concerns if you’re using him for six months. I think he’s one of those players who are magnificent to come in for four or five games, but beyond that, if that’s a long-term strategy, then I think there would be concerns.”
