Frenkie de Jong

Manchester United are on the verge of completing a deal for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie De Jong. United are in the market for players in several positions since several players are leaving or not up to par. Moreover, The United midfield has been disastrous for the last couple of seasons and is in need for fresh legs.

Erik Ten Hag is be the United manager in the Summer. Ten Hag has shortlisted several players in the Summer however his priority is De Jong. Barcelona have no problem selling De Jong for the right price. According to reports, Barcelona will accept a bid in the range of 60-70m. However, De Jong does not want to move to a club without Champions League football. As United are out of the Champions League in the Summer, De Jong to United does seem like a fever dream. However, Ten Hag and De Jong worked together in Ajax and share a great relationship. Ten Hag will be approaching De Jong and convince him to sign for the club.

Moreover, De Jong is no longer an important member at Barcelona. This is due to several reasons. One, They have the services of Pedri who is one of the best midfielders in the world and a great future prospect. Two, Xavi is trying to implement Guardiola’s tactics at Barcelona and De Jong does not fit in his vision. This essentially creates the perfect situation for both teams. Barcelona need funds as they are in debt whereas United require a world class midfielder. It’s a win-win move.

Erik Ten Hag will be bringing in several players into the United squad and transition them into a world class club. And De Jong seems to be the first part of the answer.
