Transfers: Manchester City interested in Milan winger

About Football Express UK

Manchester City have shown interest in AC Milan forward Rafael Leao. Leao has been an important player for Milan. He was instrumental in bringing the Scudetto back to Milan after eleven long years.

Paolo Maldini had said earlier that Leao was untouchable and there is no way Milan would sell him. However, City can bring Leao to Manchester if they can meet the release clause. A release clause would always mean that another team can get the player if they can meet the price set. However, Milan have kept a hefty price tag of 127.56m. This is a very big price tag even for the likes of Manchester City even though they are one of the richest clubs in the league. Moreover, Leao would break City’s record transfer fee if they move in for him.

Newcastle United have shown interest in the forward as well in the last couple of months. Newcastle are under new ownership and they want to change the club’s vision. The new owners want Newcastle to be one of the biggest clubs in England. For Newcastle to achieve their vision, they need bigger names and a better manager, no offense to Eddie Howe. Newcastle are on the run for Leao however it is unlikely that a move would be finalized as they don’t play in Europe. Whereas City can always play in the Champions League. Moreover, they can fight to win it as well.

Leao wish

Leao had given his opinion on moving away from Milan in a past interview.

“I have two more years on my contract with Milan and I feel at home there, The rumors about Real Madrid’s interest make me happy, but I’m going well with Milan and I’m proud to work with this group of players. Maldini is wonderful and offers a lot to Milan, I consider him like a diamond in the rough. I left Sporting very young and went to Lille, the French league is strong and helped me develop a lot. My first two seasons with Milan were not what I wanted, but now I am more mature and feel more confident.”
