Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku has rejected a move towards North London rivals Tottenham Hotspurs. Lukaku has been amidst rumors of leaving the Blues after a terrible season at Stamford Bridge.
Lukaku has had a terrible return to Chelsea as he has not been able to bring his form at Inter Milan. The Belgian had been at Chelsea before until he was deemed a flop and was allowed to leave. Lukaku has had difficult periods at times, Manchester United before however, it looked like he had found his footing at Inter. He had a great season at Inter in 2020/21 where they won the Scudetto. However, Lukaku wanted a better contract however Inter were unable to comply as they had limited funding. This led to Lukaku leaving Inter and making a return to Stamford Bridge.
Lukaku although had a difficult season as he was unable to find his “Inter” form at Chelsea. Moreover, Lukaku went on a goal drought at times and he was only able to score again in the late stages of the season. Also, his off-field attitude and disputes with coach Thomas Tuchel did not help his case. This meant Chelsea want to get rid of Lukaku after a failed season.
Tottenham out of the race
Tottenham wants Lukaku as they are in the market for new forwards. Moreover, they need a striker as Harry Kane could leave Tottenham in the upcoming transfer window. Lukaku could have been a great signing since he worked with Antonio Conte at Inter Milan. It was with Conte that Lukaku was able to regain his form. However both player and manager left the club in the Summer due to some dispute. Conte wanted a reunion with Lukaku however the player had other ideas. Lukaku will likely move back to Inter who are keen for the striker.
