Transfers: Juventus reject Matthijs De Ligt bid form Chelsea

About Football Express UK

Juventus have rejected an official bid for Matthijs De Ligt from Chelsea. De Ligt has two years left in his contract with the Old Lady. However several clubs are trying to lure him away from Turin. One of those clubs is Chelsea who are desperately searching for a center back.

Chelsea are without center backs as their first choice center backs left the club. Antonio Rudiger left Chelsea to join Real Madrid due to a failed contract negotiation. This was mostly because Chelsea were unable to renew his contract due to the sanctions from the UK government. Moreover, they could not come to terms with Rudiger over a new contract and the German had to find a new club. Although there were several clubs waiting to swoop in. However, Rudiger chose Madrid to be his next destination. Andres Christensen left the club after a decade worth of service at the club. Christensen had a difficult final season as he had a poor attitude and relationship with the manager. Even though Tuchel wanted him to stay, Christensen wants to leave and Barcelona seems to be his choice.

Juventus rejects

The duo leaving means Chelsea are without their first-choice center-backs before the new season. Moreover, these two players were key for the Chelsea team that won the Champions League in 2021 under Tuchel. Chelsea had chosen De Ligt as their primary target for the transfer window. Chelsea made a bid around the 40M mark to Juventus. However, Juventus have rejected the offer as they feel the fee is too low for the Dutchman. Moreover, they are reluctant to sell De Lift in this transfer window. They intend to keep him until his contract ends. Juventus will be hoping to extend his contract later on as De Ligt is one of the best center backs and he is very young at the age of 22 and has a lot of football left.
