Transfers: Chelsea joins race for Leeds midfielder

About Football Express UK

Chelsea have started talks with Leeds over midfielder Kalvin Phillips. Phillips is a defensive midfielder and was one of the better parts of the season for Leeds. However, Chelsea are not alone in the race as several clubs wants Phillips as well.

Phillips and Leeds have had a contrasting season. Phillips had a good season as he was able to hold the midfield consistently throughout the season. Moreover he has been able to be at a personal best this season. However, Leeds on the other hand has been absolutely terrible compared to their previous seasons. Leeds escaped relegation on the final day as Burnley lost to Newcastle thanks to a brace from Callum Wilson. Burnley got relegated while Leeds live to fight another day.

Phillips’s great run of form has put him under the radar of several clubs. Manchester United were eyeing Phillips for a while as they are in the market for a new midfielder. Moreover, Chelsea have now joined the run as well.

Chelsea or United?

Chelsea are a better team than United however they lack stability at the moment. Todd Boehly is going to take over from Roman Abramovich and the Chelsea camp are unstable. There is increasing tension about Boehly whether he is a free spender or a miser in the transfer market. Chelsea are under constant pressure outside the football pitch. Although they are led by the experienced Thomas Tuchel who brings stability to the football pitch.

United on the other hand are going through their transition phase as Erik Ten Hag takes on the managerial role. United have struggled all season and have finished 6th with a Europa League spot. However, things look like they are about to change as Ten Hag sets to bring his vision and playstyle to the club. Phillips could have a central role at the club as United are out of decent midfielders at the moment.

At the moment Both clubs offer very little however United look to be a much better choice in the long run.
