Transfers: Barcelona offers Sergino Dest to Chelsea in a swap deal to sign Marcos Alonso

Sergino Dest

Barcelona have reportedly offered Sergino Dest to Chelsea amidst their interest in signing Marcos Alonso. Barcelona wants a swap deal as they want Alonso and will give up Dest if Chelsea agrees to their condition.

Alonso has spent almost a decade at the club and has been a faithful servant at the club. While he had lost his previous touch at Chelsea for some time, He has managed to find his footing under Tuchel. Moreover, Alonso has been able to get more game time under Tuchel this season as Ben Chilwell remains injured.

Alonso wants to move back home

Earlier this season, Alonso spoke about his contract and desire to leave the club.

“On paper I have one more year of contract and that is what there is until today. I’ve already said other times that I would like to [return to Spain] but it doesn’t depend entirely on me. There are two games left here [with Spain] and then it’s time to rest. I’ve played 50 games, we’ve been world champions, we’ve had bad luck in the cup finals. I can’t complain about anything at Chelsea but the desire to play in Spain is there. It doesn’t depend entirely on me and I’m happy at Chelsea, I’m sincere.”

Alonso has a year left in his contract and wants to move back to his home. Alonso, 31, is an aging midfielder while Dest, 21, is young. Dest has a lot of potentials and could prove to be a great future prospect. While Alonso is a great player in his own regard, he is not young and a player at his age can only continue on the big stage for so long especially a player in the position which plays where one has to control the transition between defense and attack. At the moment, It seems like Chelsea are getting the better end of the deal.
