Transfers: Aston Villa make headway with Ben Mee

Aston Villa are eyeing Burnley defender Ben Mee. Mee will be playing in the championship in the coming season as Burnley have been relegated. Mee would be moving on to Villa if they make a satisfactory offer.

Burnley has had a difficult campaign which has caused them to make some controversial decisions. They had to sack their decade-long manager Sean Dyche. Although Burnley has had a difficult time as they fought relegation. No one had expected Sean Dyche’s departure, as the man has been through thick and thin with Burnley. However, after Dyche’s departure, they gave the reigns to caretaker manager Mike Jackson. Jackson did a decent job with Burnley taking them to the very last gameday until they got demoted. Burnley required a win to stay above Leeds however failed and Burnley will play in the Championship.

Mee has been unavailable for Burnley as he has been out of the squad due to a hairline injury. Due to the circumstances, Mee switched to a coaching role with the caretaker manager to get Burnley out of trouble. However, despite their best efforts, Burnely have been relegated. Burnley needs to get their heads up and fight their way back into the Premier League.

Villa’s interest

Villa have shown interest in Mee since Steven Gerrard came into the squad. However, these interests were never looked further upon as the transfer window closed. Moreover, the injury to Mee would have made any side back off. However, Villa stays adamant as Gerrard needs an experienced defender in the squad, Mee, 32, arrived at Burnley on loan from Manchester City in 2011. He made a permanent move to the Turf Moor the following year. Mee would be leaving the club after a decade-long service to the club.
