Transfers: Arsenal looking to add a Bologna defender

Arsenal are in the market for a new defender. Arteta has kept his eyes on Bologna defender Aaron Hickey. However, Arsenal faces stiff competition from the likes of AC Milan and rivals Tottenham Hotspurs. Moreover, Conte’s a “Fan” of the youngster and would love him in his squad.

Hickey moved to Bologna at the age of 17 and has 48 appearances so far. He has even managed to find the back of the net 5 times. The fullback has brought comparisons to the likes of International teammate Andrew Robertson and has started twice for Scotland.

Arteta wants to replace Kiernan Tierney as he is injury prone. However, Tierney has been amazing for Arsenal when he is fit. Although Tierney is very unreliable in this aspect. Due to the above-mentioned reason, Arteta wants a new fullback and Hickey is on his list of targets. Hickey has a market value of 17.5m.

However, Arsenal faces competition from Tottenham and AC Milan, The latter of who have made their ambitions public.

Hickey speaks out

Hickey recently spoke about his time at Bologna and his future. Moreover, he acknowledged the speculation regarding AC Milan and other clubs being interested.

“I might want to challenge myself somewhere else and have a different experience, but who knows the future. I do see a lot of talk. It’s nice to know there’s interest from other clubs, it gives you some confidence. But you just keep your head down and focus on football. It’s been really good here. As I said, who knows I might want to have a new challenge, but I probably wouldn’t mind coming here every day to be honest. It’s nice to see other Italian teams interested, It’s nice to see that because it is the Serie A, it is the top league and there are top teams. It’s nice to see big teams around your name.”
