Transfers: Arsenal bow out of the race for Victor Osimhen, Newcastle still in

About Football Express UK

Arsenal are out of the race for Lille striker Victor Osimhen. Osimhen has impressed multiple clubs as he has displayed a great form. Moreover, he has elevated Lille’s play style and football in general.

Osimhen has had a great season for Lille as he has found the back of the net 18 times in 32 appearances in all competitions. He has upped his game a notch from the previous season where he scored 10 goals in 30 appearances. His goalscoring exploits have kept him on the radar of multiple clubs. One such club is Arsenal who have been waiting for his signature for some time now. However, Arsenal have bowed out as they are unable to match the 95m price tag set by Lille.

Arsenal needs a new striker

Arsenal are in the market for a new striker as their current striker are to leave or are out of form. Pierre Emerick Aubameyang left Arsenal for Barcelona in the Summer. Aubameyang has been a consistent performer for Barcelona since. Alexandre Lacazette has had a bad patch of form for the last couple of seasons. Moreover, he has announced he will leave the club in the Summer. Eddie Nketiah on the other hand has found rejuvenation in the second half of the season. However, Arsenal haven’t agreed on a contract with Nketiah. Hence, Arsenal needs a new striker however they will no longer be going for Osimhen.

Newcastle shouldn’t sign Osimhen

Newcastle United are the only club at the moment in the race for Victor Osimhen. However, his 95m price tag will be an issue as it could deny Newcastle to sign other players. Newcastle needs new players in a couple of positions and splashing almost 100m on Osimhen would be flirting with the FDA. This would make Newcastle ineligible to buy new players in the Summer. As such Newcastle need to be careful with how they spend their funds.
