Tottenham looking for an exchange deal including Bergwijn

Tottenham Sutton

Tottenham Hotspur are said to be willing to send Steven Bergwijn to Ajax in exchange for Brazilian attacker Antony. Antony had a strong development season under Erik ten Hag in 2021-22, finishing with 12 goals and 10 assists in 32 appearances across all tournaments. The 22-year-old scored eight goals in 23 Eredivisie matches to help Ajax win the league. Furthermore, he has a hand in six Champions League goals across seven matches.

A reunion with Ten Hag at Manchester United has been strongly suggested for Antony. According to The Independent, Tottenham are also interested in signing the Brazil international. They also are considering sending out-of-favour Bergwijn in the opposite direction.

Tottenham’s Bergwijn leaving.

Last season, the Netherlands international struggled to replace Dejan Kulusevski and Son Heung-min in the Lilywhites’ starting XI. Bergwijn appeared in only four Premier League games for Tottenham. He came off the bench to score a late brace in a 3-2 win over Leicester City in January. However, the 24-year-old has now publicly stated his desire to leave.

He said

“Have I discussed my future with Alfred Schreuder [Ajax manager]?” “I’m at Oranje right now, and then we’ll look,”

“It would be great if there was some clarity soon.” All I have to do now is go play. But I know I want to leave Spurs right now. Is it critical that my new club competes in the Champions League? That isn’t even a high priority. Nonetheless, it would be nice. What matters is that I will participate.”

“I wasn’t allowed to leave Spurs during the winter, so I didn’t have any issues. I was barely looked after there in the last few months. Now I want to play somewhere on a weekly basis.”

Bergwijn joining rival club?

The former PSV man also confirmed that a move to Ajax was a possibility, but Brighton & Hove Albion and Crystal Palace have also been linked with his signature. Meanwhile, Antony has spent the last two years in Amsterdam after moving there in a £14.2 million deal from Sao Paulo, where he has 22 goals and 20 assists in 78 appearances. Antony also won an Olympic gold medal with Brazil at the Tokyo Games last year, and his contract with Ajax, like Bergwijn’s with Tottenham, has three years left on it.

Antonio Conte’s side has done a lot of business in the summer transfer window so far, and on Friday they announced the signing of Yves Bissouma from Brighton & Hove Albion on a four-year deal. Ivan Perisic and Fraser Forster have also joined the club on free transfers, and a £20 million deal for Middlesbrough right-back Djed Spence is said to have been agreed.
