Tottenham eyeing a potential move for Roma midfielder

Nicolò Zaniolo

Tottenham have had a busy transfer window this time around. Tottenham have signed 6 players this window so far, with the most recent being Djed Spence from Middlesbrough. Although Tottenham have added 6 players into the squad, they are still looking into signing Nicolo Zaniolo from Roma.

According to sources, Tottenham Sporting director Fabio Paratici is in Italy and is in talks with Roma over Zaniolo. Moreover he is also in negotiation with other Serie A clubs over Bryan Gil and Japhet Tanganga as they look to depart.

Tottenham however do not have the funds left to pursue Zaniolo. The club is aiming to sell Lucas Moura and Tanguy Ndombele to fund the transfer.

Zaniolo has played a pivotal role for the Jose Mourinho side as they clinched the first ever Conference League, Also Roma’s first European trophy. Zaniolo found the back of the net 8 times and assisted 9 times across 42 appearances in all competitions. The Italian International has two years left in his contract and Roma could ask for a heft transfer fee.

Conte speaks about the target

Antonio Conte wants Tottenham to be competitive and have a good finish at the end of the next season. Conte also has kept a realistic approach as he does not believe Tottenham can win the title next season. However he does believe Tottenham can be title challengers within a couple of seasons.

“My target is to try to be competitive, My target is that when the other teams are going to play against Tottenham, they will be not scared but a bit worried. This is our target.

When I arrived in November, I said that if we wanted to try to go up in the table, we would have to go together, to improve the team together but, at the same time, the players have to go to another level. To grow, grow, grow.

I think we have a young team. We have many players that can play for Tottenham for three or four years together. We are trying to create a solid foundation, then to go step-by-step to improve and then in the end to fight for something important.”
