Tottenham are in talks for a move for Owen Wijndal

Owen Wijndal

Tottenham Hotspur are attempting to toughen up their defense. They want to bring in AZ Alkmaar defender Owen Wijndal. The season of 2021-2022 saw Tottenham perform well overall. Moreover, they did perform quite well towards the end of the season. Thus they were able to achieve the top four. Wijndal is 22 years old and has gathered up 11 caps with the national team of the Netherlands. However, his last national team appearance was in Euro 2020.

Tottenham looking for a defender.

They are on the lookout for a new defender as their defense isn’t very strong. Thus they are looking to sign Wijndal and are now in talks with AZ Alkmaar. The player in question is not involved with any of the Netherland’s big clubs but he is still regarded as a promising talent. He is a left-footed defender who has scored four goals and put in 27 assists in 143 appearances with the club. Wijndal has been with the Netherland’s national team in every age group and also plays with the senior team too.

Even though the player is a left-back, Antonio Conte has the abilities and technical know-how to convert him into a left-wing back. He will turn the player into a good attacking wing-back.

Even though Spurs already have players including new signing Ivan Perisic who can play that role, they would still like the signing of Wijndal. Right now, Ryan Sessegnon and Sergio Reguilon are Conte’s best options to play in the left-back position. Perisic is the third player who can do it as well.

However, if Wijndal were to sign for Tottenham Hotspur, then Reguilon might leave the club and go back to his parent club Real Madrid. They are very interested in the way Reguilon has performed in the Premier League and surely they are pleased to have included a buyback clause in his deal. At Real Madrid, Marcelo has left and Ferland Mendy is receiving interest from other clubs, Reguilon might have the chance to play in the team.

Also, Napoli, Juventus, and Lyon are all interested in Wijndal’s signature, and Premier League, and Champions League interest may sway him to join Tottenham.
