Liverpool has started the season brilliantly and the two most influential players are Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The Egyptian has already scored 16 goals and assisted nine times in 20 Premier League appearances. And on the other hand, the Englishman has already made 11 goals contributions from defence, scoring twice and notching up nine assists in 18 league appearances.
Salah and Sadio Mane will be out for the next few games due to their international duties. Without the two main goal threats. The Englishman will have to take more responsibility to contribute in front of the goal over the next few weeks.
Apart from being in the league. The 23-years-old has played three games in the Champions League for Jurgen Klopp’s side. And he has made two assists. So, he has managed 13 goal contributions in this campaign in only 21 games in all competitions.
Although he is an excellent right-back going forward, his frailties lie at the back. The defender has been exposed on several occasions at the back which led to the goals for the opposition.
The defender cannot read dangers at the back. And quite often he finds himself in no man’s land while defending. Therefore, despite starting the season on a higher note. Liverpool has lost their way a bit and has lost seven points in the last three games.
Will Liverpool make a run for the title challenge with Trent Alexander-Arnold the only goal contributor in the squad along with Diogo Jota?
Having failed to find a victory over the last three games, the Reds are currently 11 points behind the league leader Manchester City. Jurgen Klopp’s side is currently third in the table with 42 points in 20 games. Chelsea is at the second with one point ahead.
So, it will be a huge ask for Liverpool to close the gap with the Citizens. Pep Guardiola’s side is in a great run at the moment as they have won 11 consecutive games in the Premier League and are looking clear favourites to defend the league title.
Without Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane in the squad, it will be even more difficult to close the gap at the top of the league. So, although Trent Alexander-Arnold is displaying a great performance going forward, it will be hard for the Reds to catch the runaway leaders Manchester City.
