Steven Gerrard desperately scouting the transfer market for a new striker

About Football Express UK

Aston Villa head coach Steven Gerrard is said to be scouting the market for a new striker.

This was reported by talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook.

Gerrard has endured a perfect start to the transfer market season.

Villa has already added five new players to their team this season. However, a striker eludes their ranks.

Before the transfer market officially opened, Villa had confirmed the signing of Phillipe Coutinho from Barcelona. He was a loan at the Villa Park last season and he has shown his spark during that time.

The next signing was from Sevilla- Diego Carlos. Carlos is set to bolster their defensive ranks of Gerrard.

Before long, Robbie Olsen was also added to their squad as a backup keeper to Emiliano Martinez.

Boubacar Kamara came as a free transfer to the East Midlands club. His contract at Marseille expired and he soon made the move to Villa Park.

The latest to be added to Gerrard’s squad includes loan signing Ludwig Augustinsson.

Therefore, it seems that Gerrard has almost filled up every place in his team except the forward position.

Moreover, Crooks told GivemeSport,” They got a lot of business done early and then it’s gone a bit quiet. They were obviously linked with Luis Suarez. So, I think Gerrard is scouring the market and that would probably have a knock on effect with Danny Ings.”

Does Steven Gerrard really need a striker this season?

Though, Crook has said that Gerrard is yet to add a striker this season. However, Gerrard has already three strikers on his team currently.

Ollie Watkins is thought to be Gerrard’s primary striker.

Moreover, Danny Ings is also there, who had an average first season at Villa. From the 22 games that he featured, he scored seven goals.

Therefore, Gerrard could not place too much faith in this striker.

Above these two, there is also the presence of a talented youngster the likes of Cameron Archer in the team.

He showed his talent in the Championship last season with Preston.

Considering all this, the question now arises whether at all Gerrard needs a new striker for the new season.
