Spurs sign Lenglet on a 1-year deal

Clément Lenglet

Spurs have reportedly completed the signing of Clement Lenglet from Barcelona on a 1-year long loan deal.

This is the fifth signing for Tottenham Hotspur this season, after Fraser Forster, Ivan Perisic, Yves Bissouma, and Richarlison. The move is still subject to an international work permit and clearance, though they aren’t expected to cause any issues.

The Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte has been targeting the French Center Back for quite some time now.

The now Spurs center-half has stated in his first interview that he wants to play aggressively and help his team win the ball.

The 27-year-old Center Back was made surplus by Xavi ahead of the season as they look for balance in the books amidst their financial issues. Also, the signing of Christensen from Chelsea means, there’s less possibility of game time for the French defender. The defender cost Barcelona a fee of £31.7m in the summer of 2018. After arriving from Sevilla, the defender went on to make 160 La Liga appearances in his four-year stay. Though, among those 160, he started only 7 matches. The defender fell down the pecking order for selection after the likes of Pique, Araujo, and Eric Garcia. He scored 7 goals in the games that he appeared in. Lenglet has won La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Supercopa de Espana as a Cule.

Lenglet at Spurs

The Frenchman will be competing with the likes of Eric Dier, Christian Romero, and Ben Davies at the club from North London. Though Spurs can sign another defender on a permanent basis, the boss states that he is more interested in improving the attack now. Spurs will be competing for the Champions League this year. Antonio Conte will look for the best possible balance in the team for the season to get better results in the Champions League as well as the premier league. This also means the North London club will need more depth in their squad as there will be more fixtures to play. The matches are going to come thick and fast, the players will need to befit for the campaign.
