Spurs sent Luis Diaz contract to wrong player

About Football Express UK

In the final days of the winter transfer window, news broke out that Spurs target Luis Diaz has chosen Liverpool as his next destination. Luis Diaz ended as the second player to turn down Tottenham after Adama Traore preferred a return to boyhood club FC Barcelona over joining the London club.

SPURS SEALED DOUBLE DEAL

After missing out on both targets, Spurs sealed late deals for Juventus duo Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski. Uruguay midfielder Bentancur moved to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on a permanent deal. While Kulusevski’s switch is a loan with an option to buy.

In an interview after joining Spurs, Bentancur had this to say about his move:

“I was very happy when I heard about the interest in me and thankfully I’ve joined now.”

“As I said, it’s a brilliant Club and a great league that I’ve always liked and now I’m going to have the chance to enjoy it alongside the other great players that we have.”

“I think they’ll help me to grow a lot on a footballing level, and obviously we’ll always try to give everything we can to represent the Club together.”

Kulusevski will be joining his Juve teammate at his new club. And when asked about the move the winger had this to say:

“The Premier League has always been the league – since I was 15 I was thinking about the Premier League because that’s what we watched in Sweden, that was the best league in the world and I still think it is.”

“It’s just another world. I was always thinking ‘when can I go there?’ and then when this opportunity came, I didn’t think twice.”

COMICAL ERROR BY SPURS REGARDING LUIS DIAZ

According to Portuguese outlet Record (via Sport Witness ), Bentancur’s lawyers received a contract that still bore Diaz’s name.

The misstep left “a lot of people surprised,” journalist Sergio Krithinas noted while discussing Spurs’ deadline day business.

The mistake took place as Spurs were working against the clock to land their two signings in what has been a somewhat bitter window for them. However, coach Antonio Conte appreciated the signings and highlighted the fact that Tottenham will need to learn from their mistakes.

Tottenham had a busy deadline day as there were departures as well. Dele Alli joined Everton and Tanguy Ndombele rejoined Lyon on loan. While there were loan departures for Bryan Gil and Giovanni Lo Celso to Valencia and Villareal respectively.
