Southgate says England have a “Winning Edge” in name of Jordan Henderson

The Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson recently scored his first-ever international goal for the England national football team against Ukraine in the Euro 2020 quarterfinals.

The England boss Gareth Southgate believes that England have a “Winning Edge” to go all the way in the competition. Praising Henderson Southgate said

“Within in any team there’s a core group that drives the team and I don’t think you can underestimate the importance of that”. Southgate further added “Team building is about so much more than that. Relationships and strength of those bonds. That group is so important.”

After the elimination of the World Champions, one can say that egos can ruin any team in football. While apart from having potential players who can win you matches there is always a core that bounds the team. Thus, strengthening the unity of the team. The Liverpool skipper Henderson, who might not be the key to England success on the Pitch but he surely plays a crucial role off the turf.

Will Jordan Henderson start for England in the semi-finals?

The 31-year-old Liverpool midfielder has not been part of the starting lineup for England in the Euros so far. However, Henderson has been on the sidelines for England acting as a substitute on the bench. Moreover, recovering from an injury which he suffered while playing for Liverpool Henderson is now eager to start for The Three Lions.

Looking at the current state the Reds skipper looks in good shape. Meanwhile, Henderson’s bonding among the team members is what makes Southgate feel that they have a “Winning Edge” over the others in the Competition.

“I loved some of the reaction on the bench when Hendo scored because you could see the younger players were totally delighted for him,” said Southgate after the match.

England will now be looking forward to the semifinals as they play Denmark, whose fairy tale journey continues. The match will be taking place in Wembley, which is the home ground of the Three Lions. It will be interesting to see what lineup does Southgate picks for the semis. The involvement of Jordan Henderson is what fans would love to see but it would be a tough decision for Southgate looking at the options he possesses.
