Southampton vs Leicester City Preview

Premier League player

After a disappointing defeat against Liverpool, Southampton will face Leicester City on Wednesday night in a crucial Premier League encounter at St. Mary’s Stadium.

The Foxes haven’t had a great start to the season as they are currently sitting 10th in the league with 18 points in 13 games. On the other hand, Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side is 16th at the moment with 14 points from 13 games.

Despite the Saints position in the table, they have a decent record at home coming into this fixture as the south coast side have only lost one at St. Mary’s Stadium against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Southampton vs Leicester City Preview:

Southampton’s players were sent off in the last three consecutive games against Leicester at the Saint Mary’s Stadium- Pierre Emile Hojbjerg, Ryan Bertrand and Jannik Vestergaard – most notably the Foxes were victorious by 9-0 two seasons back when Bertrand was shown a red card early in the first half.

Hasenhuttl’s side has scored the fewest goal so far this season at home, five in six games and conceded the second-fewest only four. Brendan Rodgers’ side is unbeaten against the Saints in their last three encounters in all competitions and won two of those occasions.

Leicester City will be relying on Jamie Verdy to score goals as the Englishman is currently sitting second in the goal-scoring chart with nine goals only behind Mohamed Salah who has 11 goals.

On the other hand, Southampton’s forwards haven’t managed to live up to the expectations so far this season. The strikers Adam Armstrong and Che Adams have only scored two goals each, therefore, the home side will be hoping that these two could get some form in this season, starting from this game.

Moussa Djenepo and Mohamed Elyounoussi are expected to return for this encounter and Jack Stephen might also return on Wednesday. But, Stuart Armstrong will remain sidelined due to injury.

Leicester will be without Youri Tielemans, James Justin, Ricardo Pereira and Wesley Fofana who are all still recovering from their injuries. The former Southampton man Ryan Bertrand should also have to sit out from this encounter.

Southampton possible starting lineup(4-4-2):

McCarthy; Livramento, Salisu, Bednarek, Walker-Peters; Redmond, Ward-Prowse, Romeu, Elyounoussi; Adams, A. Armstrong

Leicester City possible starting lineup(4-2-3-1):

Schmeichel; Castagne, Evans, Soyuncu, Thomas; Ndidi, Soumare; Lookman, Maddison, Barnes; Vardy

Southampton 1-1 Leicester City:

Neither side are enjoying a great time at the moment and this game should end up in a draw as Southampton are having a decent run at home and it might be tough for Leicester to beat the host.
