It is no secret that Manchester United are struggling this season. One of the positions that look to have the most impact on their poor performance seem to be the defensive midfield. The Red Devils are looking to fix this issue and Wilfred Ndidi is one of their targets.
Ndidi who currently plays for Leicester City has been impressive since his debut. Manchester United are hoping to land this Premier League star if they cannot land any of their other main targets.
Manchester United currently are linked with multiple midfielders in the market. Including Franck Kessie of AC Milan and Aurelien Tchouameni of Monaco. But if they can’t land any of them, the club is looking at Ndidi as their solution.
PERFECT SOLUTION FOR UNITED MIDFIELD?
Ever since his move to Leicester City, Wilfred Ndidi has been a regular for the Foxes. He is one of the best defensive midfielders in the Premier League. Whereas he has even been used in the centre-back role when needed.
Ndidi has appeared 187 times already for the Leicester side and has contributed to 9 goals for them. At just 24, he has enough Premier League experience. With which he can fit into any of the top sides in the league with ease.
Hence for Manchester United, Ndidi could be an upgrade on the current option of Nemanja Matic, Scott McTominary or Fred. While his creative numbers are low, Ndidi excels with his impressive defensive statistics. This is precisely what the Red Devils are looking for.
CAN MANCHESTER UNITED SIGN NDIDI
Currently, Ndidi is also looking for a move. Though he currently has a contract till 2024 with Leicester City, the Nigerian is open for better options. While he even recently changed his agent to help in facilitating a move. This shows his urge for a new challenge.
This is good news for clubs like Manchester United and Arsenal who are pursuing his signature. However, it will not mean that signing Ndidi will be easy. Leicester City is notorious for being very hard to negotiate in the transfer market. And with a contract till 2024, they will demand a huge fee for Ndidi.
Manchester United will be monitoring the situation in the coming weeks. The club will surely try to address the issues they have in the current team. The need for a midfield signing seem to be inevitable. Recently Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers was linked with the managerial job of Manchester United. If this follows through, Ndidi could be the first piece of business under him. Following which the club can look forward to adding squad depth. Currently, the team needs another centre back. As well as a central attacking midfielder and a younger striker.
